About us
Sarah Barton
After deciding to have a home birth with my first child last year I wanted to share my story and
let other women know what a positive, fantastic experience giving birth at home can be. Hearing
just how many of my friends have been unhappy with their hospital births and sharing with them
my birth experience, I really want to get the message out on a bigger scale. Hopefully more
women will join me in having a birth story that they are proud of.

As an antenatal teacher, I have worked with parents for 28 years. My philosophy for normal
birth is that it takes place in a safe and supportive enviroment for the woman and that the
baby is in a good position. It is for this reason that I believe a home birth is the right
choice for many women.

I was privileged to see a hospital birth while training to be a nurse, but had an
overwhelming feeling that home would be a more natural environment in which to give birth.
The birth of each of my children was special. During my first labour I had a gentle
transfer into hospital, but for the other two nothing compared to being at home
with a good midwife, surrounded by everything familiar and people who love me.

I'm a part time midwife, married with three sons. I was born at home so home birth
was always presented in a positive light, as normal. My third son was born at home
with the older two asleep next door. My community midwife gave me confidence to choose
home birth despite the complications I had with my first son. I hope to support other
women in making home birth a choice for them.

I am a recently qualified Community Midwife. My aim is to be caring, supportive and
understanding of women, their families and friends, treating people as individuals,
respecting their rights, beliefs and needs. I will endeavour to provide an individual
and holistic approach to their care and wellbeing during the continuum of pregnancy,
childbirth and the postnatal period, advising, encouraging and advocating choices.

Two of my three children were born at home and I have been privileged to be present
at the home births of my five grandchildren. These were all happy experiences -
highlights in my life. I want all women to be able to give birth where they feel
safest and most confident, not where it's most convenient for the system. I salute
midwives who support women and stand up for this choice.
