Home Birth: Something to CelebrateProfessionals and parents came to celebrate 25 years of Chichester Home Birth in July 2011 at the Brookfield Hotel in Emsworth. We invited 25 guests, movers and shakers, including past speakers who have inspired and encouraged us - check out our past conferences. This was our thank you to some special people who have made a difference. What’s so special about home birth? Isn’t all birth worth celebrating? Of course it is, but our passion is about choice. Home birth will always be under threat - it’s low-key and woman centred, and there’s no money to be made from it – but in spite of strenuous efforts over recent decades to drive it to extinction it’s still around. Something to celebrate! Our three speakers were Gill Thorn, Annie Francis , Professor Cathy Warwick) who focussed on the past, the present and the future of home birth. Following a lovely lunch, we cut a celebration cake, made by one of the Chichester home birth team, Jane Patten and drank a toast to home birth.
Gill Thorn, a founder member of the Chichester Home Birth Group cut the celebration cake and was presented with a rose to mark her contribution to home birth over many years. |
